LRTimelapse 6.1.2 – important update!

Hey guys,

I’m really sorry to have to release another update only one week after the last one.
The reason is that I finally could find the reason for some nasty Visual Preview timeouts after returning from Lightroom that some of you were experiencing since version 6.1. Unfortunately it was very difficult for me to analyze and reproduce, that’s why it took quite long to find and fix this. I thought, it would be better to release this update asap instead of waiting and possibly causing more trouble with this for some of you.

Here is what’s changed in this Bugfix-Release:

  • Fix: Visual previews sometimes caused timeouts after returning from Lightroom. This annoying issue was unfortunately introduced with 6.1, please update asap to avoid it.
  • Fix: Metadata / Exiftool error when writing orientation into the intermediaries that the internal export generates.
  • Fix: Folder move sometimes failed without giving an error.
  • Fix: For fresh sequences without any edits, a MASKS_1 snapshot was generated, this won’t happen anymore.

Please update asap to the new version. There is no need to uninstall the older one. Just close Lightroom and LRTimelapse, then download and install the new version.

LRTimelapse 6.1.1 available for download

I’ve just released LRTimelapse 6.1.1 which brings a couple of improvements and fixes.

Unfortunately the export issues that Adobe introduced with Lightroom Classic 11.4 don’t seem to be fully fixed. Some Mac users still seem to be experiencing the export to fail in the current LrC 11.5. I’m in contact with Adobe and hope they will manage to finally solve this in the next LrC update.

Meanwhile I’ve tried to improve the error handling in the LRTExport plugin even more.

Here is what’s new in LRTimelapse 6.1.1.

  • Improvement: Ignore minor Exiftool errors.
  • Improvement: Move Dialog, added hint to select the destination folder to the title bar.
  • Improvement: LRTExport: better handling of Lightroom export errors.
  • Fix: Creating Snapshot of Masks 1.0 sequences could fail in rare cases.

As always, LRT 6.1.1 is a free update for all LRTimelapse 6 users. Please download and install at your convenience. There is no need to uninstall the previous version. If you have any questions, please come to the forum.

Greetings and all the best from Colombia, where I’m currently traveling. 🤗

Gunther

Adobe fixed major export bug with Lightroom 11.5

Finally, nearly two months after my first report, Adobe released Lightroom Classic 11.5 which fixes the major bug in the Export engine introduced with Lightroom 11.4.

That bug made large exports of several thousand images via custom plugins (like LRTExport) fail and Lightroom crash.

I had documented this bug here including a Video and sample plugin how to reproduce it and shared it via the Adobe channels and did everything I could to help them find and fix it. I’m happy that this issue is now resolved and Lightroom 11.4 now works again as it should.

Please update your Lightroom version asap via the Creative Cloud Desktop updater. Also install the latest version of Adobe DNG Converter (14.5).

LRTimelapse 6.1 is ready for download!

Hey guys, LRTimelapse 6.1 is out and I’m really excited about the new version. There are a couple of new features, improvements and fixes.

Features

  • A custom folder for temporary files can now be configued independently from the one defined in the OS. The setting is in Settings / Expert Settings. Only change this setting if you really need to.
  • Added 16:10 and 10:16 aspect ratios to render dialog.
  • Internal Export and Render now supports rendering of rotated and mirrored sequences.

Improvements

  • Render dialog would show Camera Preview, if no visual preview was generated before. Now it will try to generate a visual preview if no one is present and only switch to camera preview if there was an error.
  • If the Whitebalance of the first keyframe of a sequence was left to „As Shot“, any other Whitebalance Adjustments on later keyframes would have been reset on Auto Transition. Now, if one Keyframe in the sequence has a Custom WB, Auto Transition will set all Keyframes to „Custom“ and fill in default values for the unedited ones. Unfortunately LRT cannot know the Whitebalance values for „As Shot“ Keyframes. Therefore it’s advised to work with „Custom“ WB on all keyframes in LR, if you want to animate the WB.
  • Temp folders for sequences are now being named with hashes to prevent collisions when image folders have equal names.
  • LRTExport.log will now show the time elapsed for a full export. This makes it easier to test out, which of Lightrooms performance setting (mainly use GFX acceleration for Export or not) makes more sense on your system.
  • Status line on splash screen is now transparent

Fixes

  • Preview slider properties in Export Dialog would not be updated if another sequence was loaded.
  • Opening up the Render Dialog via Export and Render subsequently wouldn’t show a preview on the second time.
  • Some sequences with different image orientation (i.e. Camera pointer straight upwards) wouldn’t be corrected automatically, instead the wrong orientations would have been restored even when corrected by Fill Down or Auto Transition.

Misc

  • Updated ExifTool

To upgrade, download the new version, close Lightroom and LRTimelapse and run the installer. Enjoy!

Please let me know your feedback in the forum!

Last chance: Buy an LRTimelapse Upgrade or License now for the old price!

Dear LRTimelapse users and time-lapse enthusiasts,

10 years ago LRTimelapse 2 was released and since then I have never increased the prices.

Even with the last major update to LRTimelapse 6, despite of the now immensely increased functionality, I’ve deliberately not adjusted any prices.

Instead I kept prices for the licenses and upgrades at the price of ten years ago. That was half a year ago, actually enough time for everyone to upgrade to the new version.

But now the time has come for me to make a moderate price adjustment. But again, not without announcing it to you in advance and giving you the opportunity to buy the upgrade or a license at the old price beforehand.

The price increase will be 10% and will take place on August, 1st., 2022, so you still have time to upgrade to version 6, crossgrade from Private to Pro or even buy a license if you are currently still using the free version.

Please note that support for version 5 (and older) has ended. Licensed users can of course still use the old versions, but there are no more updates for them. This means, no adaptations to latest Lightroom or operating system versions are happening for those older versions anymore.

Apart from this, LRTimelapse 6 is so much faster, brings native support for Apple M1/M2 computers and provides many improvements to the workflow, like internal editing, export and render without needing to go through Lightroom. Check out my videos about the changes in version 6 on the tutorial page.

I can only recommend that you take the opportunity now and upgrade to the current version 6, before the price increase on August, 1st..

Here are a few direct links to the products in the shop. The differences between Private and Pro licenses are listed here.

If you do not have a license yet:

If you have a license for LRTimelapse 6 Private and want to Crossgrade to a Pro License:

If you have a license for LRTimelapse 5 Private:

If you have a license for LRTimelapse 5 Pro:

If you have a license for LRTimelapse 4 Private:

If you have a license for LRTimelapse 4 Pro:

If you still have a license for the old LRTimelapse 3 or 2:

Unfortunately there are no direct upgrades for this anymore, here you would have to buy a new 6 license please:

If you buy an Upgrade or Crossgrade, the assignment to your existing license is done by matching your email address and name after payment with our license database. This happens in the background. You do not need to log in to the store to purchase an upgrade/crossgrade. If you have changed your email address in the meantime, it will take a little longer because we will have to do the matching manually.

I hope by announcing it upfront I found a fair mode concerning the price increase, which does not bring any disadvantages especially for longtime customers. Thank you for your understanding,

Yours Gunther

LRTimelapse 6.0.6 is ready for download!

Hey guys, I’ve been working quite extensively with and on LRTimelapse the last weeks and found some things that could need a little polish, also thanks to everyone who reported any findings in the forum.

So please update to 6.0.6 as soon as you can and enjoy the new version. Let me know in the forum, if you have any questions!

Changes in 6.0.6:

  • Folder names ending with „_REMOVED“ (automatically created when using the „remove images“ feature) will now be shown in dimmed (grey).
  • Fixed LRTExport plugin issues in the new languages (ES,PT,FR,IT)
  • In some rare cases the compilation of ExifTool failed on a fresh install, this shouldn’t happen anymore.
  • If users changed the ouput file name in the render dialog and forgot the extension, the encoder would fail. The extension will now be fixed automatically.
  • Auto Transition would apply transitions to Orientation column if it (by user mistake) had different orientation values on the keyframes. Now the orientation of the first keyframe will be populated to the whole sequence if such a constellation is found during auto transition.
  • Number of parallel ExifTool processes was incorrectly calculated on machines with less than 4 processor cores.
  • Render Dialog: Intermediary sequences exported from Lightroom with Cropping already applied would appear skewed in the preview render dialog. Fixed.
  • Render Dialog: Improved rounding of output resolutions to default crop aspect ratios.
  • When switching a folder while doing a multipass deflicker with more than 4 passes and submitting that process to batch processing, only 2 passes would have done. Fixed. (Thanks for finding this, Uli!)

To upgrade, download the new version, close Lightroom and LRTimelapse and run the installer. Enjoy!

LRTimelapse 6.0.5 is available for download

Hi fellow LRTimelapse users,

I’ve just released LRTimelapse 6.0.5 with some improvements and fixes.

  • The histogram was not updated after editing keyframes internally, fixed.
  • Editor Panel will now be deactivated when multiple rows are selected in the table.
  • Composition dialog was cropped in some languages, reworked the UI of the dialog.
  • Added translations for the title bar of LRT Importer
  • Added Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese translation for LRTExport Plugin. Should you find any translation errors, please let me know.
  • Added previewWidth property to config file. Please note that higher widths severly affect the overall performance of LRT and should only be used by users who definitely know what they are doing.
  • By default the number of threads for ExifTool will be Cores / 4 now. Higher values could be set in the config file by advanced users but usually don’t deliver any advantage, that’s why it’s not a setting in the settings dialog. Changing this is not recommended.

As always, when installing the new version, just make sure to have Lightroom and LRTimelapse closed. Then run the installer.

You’ll find the download on the download page.

Enjoy,
Gunther

PS: Have you seen the announcement about the new edition 2022 of my EBook Timelapse Photography?

Tagged , | Kommentare deaktiviert für LRTimelapse 6.0.5 is available for download

Edition 2022 of my E-Book „Timelapse Photography“ is now available!

The new edition of my E-Book „Time-lapse Photography“ is now available!

I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few weeks reworking the e-book in all three languages (English, Spanish, German). In particular, of course, I have covered the new versions of Lightroom Classic (e.g. concerning the masks) and LRTimelapse 6 (simplified workflows, even without Lightroom), renewed all screenshots and updated the workflows.
I have also brought the other chapters up to date. I’ve added new hardware recommendations, like the QCCP for power supply of camera and motion control and made many minor and major changes.

The information that I share in that E-Book on 480 Pages, was acquired by me in more than 12 years of practical timelapse photography. In the E-Book I  teach you to make perfect recordings that don’t have to shy away from the comparison with the very best.

Of course, Timelapse Photography also covers special challenges such as perfect day / night transitions (the Holy Grail), capturing fascinating astro-landscape timelapses from the Milky Way and the Northern Lights, and shooting timelapse with a moving camera (motion control).

My goal with this book is to provide a standard reference book about modern timelapse photography, with the help of which you can learn to make perfect timelapses. Step by step and building on each other, I explain the individual techniques and encourage you to try them out again and again.

Order here:

English, German and Spanish Version, 480 Pages, PDF, electronic download.

You can find more information about the E-Book including a reading sample on the project page.

All the best
Gunther

PS: Every customer of the 1st edition of „Timelapse Photography“ (from 2020) has already received a separate Email with special informations about how to get the upgrade. Please understand, that there are no discounted upgrades from the older Book from 2015 „Timelapse Shooting and Processing“.

LRTimelapse 6.0.4 is available for download

LRTimelapse 6.0.4 fixes a couple of issues reported by users in the forum.

  • In some constellations calculating the auto transition could fail with an error. Fixed.
  • In some cases timestamps with millis were read from the exif date of the camera with only one decimal place, then the interval calculation would also display wrong values. Fixed.
  • When using the internal „rename with date prefix“ feature (F2) on a fresh sequence the XMP wouldn’t be saved. Fixed.
  • Keyframes Wizard would in some cases remove keyframes without crating new ones when activated multiple times. Fixed.
  • Fixed position of build number on Splash screen
  • Some improvements in logging.

Please update as soon as possible. You can find the new version on the download page.
